MAXCAP / MACOS GUIDE
Install it,
and start capturing.
macOS installation and signing guide. Just follow the three steps below.
macOS 14+ · Apple Silicon (M-series)
-
Drag it to Applications
Open the downloaded DMG and drag MaxCap into the Applications folder. Then open MaxCap from Applications.
Opens normally? Skip to step 3; no commands needed.
-
If macOS blocks it
First go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, find the message about MaxCap, click Open Anyway and confirm when asked.
If you still see a message that the developer cannot be verified or that the app is damaged, and you have confirmed where it came from, press ⌘ Space to search for and open Terminal, copy the command below, paste it and press Return:
Remove the download quarantinexattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/MaxCap.app"No output usually means it worked. Go back to Applications and open MaxCap again.
xattronly removes MaxCap's download quarantine flag. It does not sign the app, and it does not turn off macOS security checks. -
Allow Screen Recording and start capturing
When the app asks, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording and turn on MaxCap. Some macOS versions call it "Screen & System Audio Recording".
If macOS asks you to quit and reopen the app, do so, then try a region capture again.
Still have questions?
How do I check the app's signature?
Run this command in Terminal. It only checks the app and changes nothing:
codesign --verify --deep --strict --verbose=2 "/Applications/MaxCap.app"
If you see valid on disk and
satisfies its Designated Requirement, the code signature checks out. This
does not mean the app has been notarized by Apple.
If the check fails, download the app again from the website and reinstall it. Don't re-sign it yourself; that can make you grant the Screen Recording permission again.
Seeing "No such file" or "Permission denied"?
No such file: make sure MaxCap is in Applications and named
MaxCap.app, and don't run the command on the app inside the DMG. If it is
installed somewhere else, replace the path in the command with the actual path and
keep the straight double quotes.
Permission denied / Operation not permitted: make sure the app has quit and that your account is allowed to modify it. You can reinstall it from your current account; on a Mac managed by your organisation, contact your administrator.
Still won't open after running the command?
First check the signature with "How do I check the app's signature?" above. If macOS says the app will damage your computer, or the check fails, stop and download the official installer again.
If that doesn't solve it, note your macOS version, MaxCap version and the full error message, and try again later with the latest version from this site.
All set. Catch your next idea.
